In a move which will affect tens of thousands of licensed firearms owners across Canada, the Liberal government has enacted a freeze on handgun sales effective immediately–before Bill C-21 has been fully studied and approved by Parliament. Target shooters, collectors, and hobbyists are being affected by an extrajudicial action which should concern owners and non-owners alike. If governments can enact and enforce laws before they have actually been passed into law, then that government is acting without even the grace to mask their corruption to the people they are supposed to be serving. Laws such as Bill C-21 only serve to eradicate recreational and cultural activities, while doing nothing to address the systemic issues and injustices at the root of the violence we all see and abhor.
We at the CSRA believe that handguns are an important part of our heritage and integral to a safe and fun sport enjoyed by over 600,000 Canadians. We call upon our comrades to contact representatives at all levels and ask that they support measures to directly address conditions that create crime, rather than create new ones.
Yours in solidarity,
From the Central Committee of the Canadian Socialist Rifle Association
